C&SC Course

The aim of the course is to develop professional knowledge and understanding of the student officers to prepare them for mid level command and staff appointments and with further experience to assume higher command and staff responsibilities.

Curriculum
C&SC Course

The Command and Staff Course curriculum consists of:-

(a) Professional Studies: This deals with Staff Duties, Basic Arms, Conventional Warfare, Specialized Warfare, Administration and Logistics, Training, Intelligence, Insurgency and Counter Insurgency, Terrorism and Counter Terrorism, Leadership and Management, Resource Management, Civil-Military Operations and related subjects like Disaster Management and International Humanitarian Law.

(b) Academic Studies: This includes studies on wide variety of subjects to expand the student officers' understanding of Strategy, Security (Global, Regional and National), United Nations and Conflict Resolution. Academic Studies package also contains the curriculum designed for Masters Degree in Strategic Studies.

(c) Research: Research is aimed at enhancing the ability of the student officers to examine problems in detail in a prescribed research format. During the course, the student officers are required to carry out in-depth study on the topics / subjects assigned for individual and group research. Each student officer is required to prepare and submit Thesis Paper in addition to Term Papers (for Master's Degree Students) on specific relevant subject as per instructions, which will be evaluated by a board consisting of faculty members and the professors from Tribhuwan University.

Methodology

Normally, instructions are imparted in the form of syndicate discussions. Lectures by visiting dignitaries are conducted centrally. Map Exercises, Sand Model Discussions, TEWTs, Telephone Battles and War Games are the main forms of exercises run in professional studies.

Each syndicate will be under the guidance of a DS and will have a fresh DS in each term. English is the medium of instruction in the Course. All presentations will be based on Microsoft Power Point.

Duration of the Course

The course is designed for 45 weeks. Two weeks Orientation Course for international student officers and Pre-course for student officers from other agencies. The course is divided into four terms with 10 to 12 weeks duration. There will be a week long term break after each term.

(a) First Term: Staff Duties, Basic Arms, Intelligence, Training, Administration & Logistics, Development Studies and Research.

(b) Second Term: Combat Operations (Offensive and Defensive), IRP, Development Studies and Research.

(c) Third Term: Insurgency / Counter Insurgency Operations, Terrorism/ Counter Terrorism, GRP, Campaign Plan and Internal Study Tour, Development Studies and Research.

(d) Fourth Term: United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO), Disaster Management, Strategic Leadership and Management, Civil Military Relations, NBC, Commandant Paper/Thesis, Resource Management, Foreign Study Tour, Development Studies and Research.
